TD Canadian Children?s Book Week 2014 TD Canadian Children?s Book Week is the single most important event celebrating Canadian children?s books and the importance of reading. Each year during Book Week, approximately 30 authors, illustrators and storytellers travel to all parts of our nation, giving presentations at schools and libraries for more than 35,000 children. TD Canadian Children?s Book Week 2014 will be held from Saturday, May 3rd to Saturday, May 10th, 2014. This coming year?s Book Week theme is ?Road to Remember? which commemorates the 100th anniversary of World War I. The theme will honour those who were involved in World War I, World War II and subsequent wars and will help children to recognize that there are still conflicts in many parts of the globe. Manitoba is fortunate to be hosting authors Helaine Becker and Kathy Kacer. Helaine Becker is an award-winning author whose specialties are children?s and young adult fiction, non-fiction and verse. Among her books are the Looney Bay All-Stars series, Secret Agent Y.O.U. and The Big Green Book of the Big Blue Sea. Her interactive, educational presentation is perfect for Grades K-8 students. Kathy Kacer writes early chapter books, children?s and young adult fiction, and non-fiction. During her presentation, designed for a Grade 4-8 audience, she weaves her stories around the historical events of the Second World War and the Holocaust. Kathy?s books include To Hope and Back: The Journey of the St. Louis, The Night Spies, Clara?s War and The Secret of Gabi?s Dresser (based on a true story).
